SR Tungku Juara Sepak Takraw

Sekolah Rendah Tungku berjaya menjulang sebagai juara bagi Kejohanan Sepak Takraw Sekolah-Sekolah Rendah Kawasan Zon Brunei III bagi tahun 2014 yang berlangsung di Sekolah Sukan, Berakas.

Sekolah Rendah Tungku yang diwakili oleh lima pemain dengan jersey kuning berjaya menewaskan Sekolah Rendah Rimba II dengan mata jaringan 15 – 10 di set pertama dan 15 – 8 di set kedua, sekaligus menjadikan Sekolah Rendah Rimba II sebagai Naib Johan bagi kejohanan ini.

Tempat ketiga dimenangi oleh Sekolah Rendah PPSD Sahibul Bandar yang menewaskan Sekolah Rendah OKSB Kilanas sebagai tempat keempat.

Pemangku Penolong Pengarah Daerah Zon Brunei III, Haji Zakaria bin Haji Duraman, dari Jabatan Sekolah-Sekolah Kementerian Pendidikan selaku tetamu kehormat berkenan menyampaikan pingat kepada semua pemain-pemain yang merangkul sebagai johan, naib johan, tempat ketiga dan keempat serta penghargaan kepada sekolah-sekolah kawasan Brunei III yang turut menyertai serta kepada ahli-ahli jawatankuasa termasuk hakim-hakim perlawanan yang sama-sama turut menjayakan kejohanan ini.

Hajah Norliha binti Haji Matali, Guru Besar Sekolah Rendah Tungku berkenan menyampaikan penghargaan kepada tetamu kehormat di atas kesudian beliau menghadiri dan menyemarakkan acara kejohanan.

Kids Exposed to the Wastes

A group of students had a live exposure on how the recyclable items were handled for recycling process. Dated back on 27 March 2014, the students experienced on how the items were set aside according to their specific classification of materials - papers, plastics and cans. This was a program being ran by the school until June this year in support for the Hewlett Packard Recycling Drive organised by Green Brunei Sdn Bhd.

They ventured through the process of scaling the items on the scale measurement tool. As they observed the materials were grouped respectively, handled and explained by the recycling workers from a private recycling company, and also from the teachers, students were able to identify the mass weights of the recyclable items human had had produced in everyday life.

Students also were able to predict that the recyclable items could be used again to produce new products. Recycling was also meant to save the used resources, at least to minimise from extensive exploration of natural resources solely for humans' use.

Although the students understood a little about recycling and were eager to know more of what would happen to the items next, they did understood that they needed to save the planet from humans' massive wastes around the world, particularly in their own country.

Bahasa Melayu's Turn

Right after the routined morning assembly, it was Bahasa Melayu's turn for the morning activities. This time, involved the Year 4 students from 3 classes.

As usual, like the other two subjects on Monday and Tuesday; Mathematics and English, 3 activities were opened to students. They needed to complete all three within given times.

The students were also divided into five groups - Metal, Fabric, Ceramic, Glass and Rubber. All must participate and help each other in their own team.

All points were compiled and finally won by the Metal group. Fabric and Rubber came second, followed by Glass at third and Ceramic at fourth.

SD: Visit to Ceremonial Customs Day

A group of teachers, this afternoon, made a visit to International Convention Centre, ICC for short, to have a closer look at the Ceremonial Customs displays launched by His Majesty the Sultan of Brunei, His Royal Highness Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah on the morning of 31 March 2014. The visit was a part of teachers' staff development to gain new educational resources.

The displays were to commemorate the late 28th Sultan of Brunei, Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien, which His Majesty the Sultan of Brunei proclaimed the late Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien as a pre-eminent figure in Brunei customs and traditions.

Teachers toured through the displays recalling back the memories during the reign of the late Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien at which could be seen that the Brunei customs and traditions are now preserved until today.

Morning Activities of English Games

A new program has now been carried out every week for three days from Monday until Wednesday. The program involves all students to participate according to their scheduled days.

The games will be hands-on, critical thinking, teamwork and most of all, engagement or participation and role of each student within the team. Monday will be for Mathematics, Tuesday for English and Wednesday for Bahasa Melayu.

As for today, right after the routined morning assembly, it was Year 5's English subject's turn. All the Year 5 students of 4 classes totalling for about 108 students took part in three games. The students were grouped into 5 groups - Amphibians, Mammals, Birds, Reptiles and Fish.

The students were given 2 minutes for the first two games and 4 minutes for the last one. The first game required them to figure out the correct spelling of 10 jumbled words based on the themes; Time, Occupations and Months.

The second game challenged the students to create as many words they could from one word 'Encyclopedia'. The third game required the kids to look at a series of pictures, read the given strips of sentences, match and sequence them into correct orders. This required them to read and refer two things at the same time and also had to be quick before the time ran out.

Points were collected confirming the ranking for each group from 1 to 5. At number 5 was the Fish, 4 was the Mammals, 3 was the Amphibians, 2 was the Birds and 1 won by the Reptiles.

School Organised Maulidur Rasul

Right after the routined morning assembly, the school this morning organised Maulidur Rasul in the hall. Led by Ustaz Moksin and Ustaz Amir with the recital of Dikir Marhaban, the occasion was to commemorate Prophet Muhammad's (peace be upon him) birthday in conjunction with the national event of Maulidur Rasul held in the town the other day on 14th January.

Attended by the principal, assistant principals, teachers, staffs and the students all together gathered in the hall for the annual celebrated event.

Maulidur Rasul at Bandar with His Majesty

Tungku Primary School today joined with His Majesty the Sultan of Brunei and the crowds to commemorate the Maulidur Rasul or the Prophet Muhammad's (Peace be upon him) birthday in Bandar Seri Begawan at Taman Sir Omar Ali Saifuddien.

As early as 6 a.m, a total of 29 male students and accompanied by 8 male teachers gathered at the school's compound. Departed to the town in buses, though the day was drizzled with rain, the participants headed towards the Taman with high spirit for the celebration.

A series of events was perfectly organised soon His Majesty the Sultan of Brunei arrived at the occasion. A lively welcoming warmth greeting with His Majesty to the school's participants led by Ustaz Amiruddin bin Zaidi encouraged the enjoyness of the kids to see their beloved ruler live in person and to join such occasion more often.

His Majesty the Sultan of Brunei led to be the first for the procession marking the celebration was about to start. Followed by the royal families, government agencies and the public, the procession took for about 1 hour and a half around the capital, ended at the Taman itself.

100 Years of Formal Education.

Attended by the teachers and an official from the ministry, the school this morning organised an event to commemorate 100 Years of Formal Education in Brunei Darussalam in the school's hall. The event was also held in all schools in Brunei Darussalam on the same day.

The occasion started at 8 a.m involving the Year 4, 5 and 6 students. Leading the recitation of Ratib Al-Attas and Doa Selamat was Ustaz Md Amiruddin bin Hj Zaidi. Also attending the event were PGB I and II, Cikgu Hjh Samziah binti Hj Sabtu and Cikgu Hashnalhakhim bin Hj Abd Halim.
