English Writing Data Analysis, School’s SLP Phase 2

Held in the school’s conference room on Tuesday, 3 August 2010 at 2pm, the data analysis of all levels of pre-test papers from Pra to Year 6 classes narrowed to a conclusion to sort out the abilities of the children into four categories: Quality of Ideas (QOI), Story Shape and Structure (SSS), Grammar (GMR) and Vocabulary and Spelling (VS).
The reason for the categories being used was to look for the specific weaknesses the children were having. They were given range levels of 9, 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 where 1 was the least mark and description for their composition writing and 5 was considered the highest and marvellous writing. Level 9 was for those who had no attempt to write at all while insufficient evidence including unreadable writing would be categorised as Level 0.
Children having the same range levels would be combined as one grouped classes, for example; those having level 1 in grammar would undergo learning grammar remedial lesson according to their ability, all in the same class or partitions of classes if they were so many of them. This only applied to children having Level 9, 0, 1 and 2. To be clear to look for overall of how many kids belong to the levels and by classes, a use of graph in percentages was suggested in the discussion for each level and each class.
The meeting proceeded with recommendations of appropriate lessons to be taught to each level that could in some ways enhance the ability to master the weaknesses. On the other hand, Year 1 and 3 would be having re-tests that the previous test papers were inappropriate for them after the analysis was done. It was suggested that the papers would include no helping words.
On 23 August 2010, an intervention activity would commence with the kids. A week before that, all involved teachers would have another meeting to work out for the SLP English Writing’s action plan and scheme of work.
