Commenced on the 28th July 2010, all English periods were used solely for the English writing pre-test. All levels from pra classes to Year 6’s were involved. The test was all about composition focusing on the way of styles the pupils write as well as to see the level of ability writing English composition through creativity of content, organisation of story sequence, language use and the way the story was presented in writing.
Each level did composition writing based on the kids’ level of classes. Pra classes just did the oral phonics and phrase writing which the example was already prepared by the teacher. Year 2 and Year 3 did the simple picture composition writing where they just needed to describe the pictures by writing.
Year 4, 5 and 6 did on the picture composition writing where the level of thinking and creativity was more at a higher level compared to the lower levels to describe and add additional ideas using pictures as guides to create original masterpiece writing. What was expected from the upper primary children was that they were able to attract people to read their writings with creativity.
The next task will be data collecting and writing analysis that will commence on Tuesday, 3rd August 2010. . The analysis will be emphasizing on Quality of Ideas (QOI), Story Shape and Structure (SSS), Grammar (GMR) and Vocabulary and Spelling (VS). When the analysis is done, pupils will be sorted into level of ability and level of English Language achievement benchmark. From here, it will be known then where and what the weaknesses for each student to be strengthen on.
